![]() You can see that Cloudjumper bends both of his wings when flaping them upwards and, normaly flaps down to give a bigger thrust downwards to go upwards.Īnd, if I remember this well, he only uses his second pair when flying upwards and/or hovering. When a bird flaps, the wings push the air down, giving them a thrust to stay in-air for a few seconds but, when they move them upwards, they bend the wings to avoid making a larger thrust downwards and to avoid wasting energy. He first turns to Toothless, stops for a few seconds but, it’s in that stop that he “ un-hides” the second pair and proceeds to flap its wings. You can see that when Cloudjumper is about to hover: However, when it comes to hover, that’s here the second pair comes. Plus, the second wing’s arm is much, much thiner than the main one so that it can bend with the first one and not difficult the flight. In the HTTYD2, when Cloudjumper and Valka “ surrender” Hiccup, Cloudjumper is gliding with both wings “ together”, so that the second wings doesn’t slow him down because the more wings the dragon has, the slower it gets.īecause Stormcutters have 2 pairs of wings, they avoid of using the second pair for gliding due the fact that the air also has to “pass through” those wings ( knowing that the air passes below and above the wings, “cutting it” but, eventually, slowing them down) and, in gliding, birds take the opportunity to rest and take advantage of the current speed they have so, if the Stormcutters don’t “ hide” their second pair, their gliding would slow them down 2x more than only using the first pair. View it if you wish to go through spoilers. SPOILERS- Even though I’m just talking about the Stormcutter, there are some HTTYD 2 spoilers down below. The wings aren’t even “ together”, there’s a medium-sized space between them which, kind of bugs me.Īnd, they completly ignore the fact that they have 4 wings so, the flight itself should be more different, specially when hovering. The legs are just bending to the body, as if the developers forgot to change the leg position from sitting to stretched backwards in-flight. If you dive right before it starts gliding, if you turn either right or left and stop diving, he will take the driving animation/pose as a “ side-gliding” pose. There’s no transition between side-gliding and side-flapping and, sometimes, there’s a cut between gliding and wing flapping. I could -kind of- understand the whole “missing gliding animation” but, the Stormcutter HAS the gliding animation, I don’t understand how did they missed it.Īctually, I’m starting to think they didn’t even fully updated the Stormcutter’s flight animation. Of course, firing will result in spazing out. Apparently, the Stormcutter doesn’t have a Side-Gliding animation, it will either make the wrong (and the last) pose or it will just freeze.
